How do you ensure the oysters stay fresh during shipping?
We harvest our oysters to order and pack them in insulated boxes with specialized gel ice packs. Our shipping partners use overnight or priority delivery to ensure the shellfish arrives at your door at a food-safe temperature, maintaining the 'just-harvested' quality.
When will my order arrive?
During checkout, you can select a specific delivery date. We ship Monday through Thursday for delivery Tuesday through Friday. We do not currently offer weekend or Monday deliveries to ensure the shortest possible time in transit.
How should I store my oysters once they arrive?
Immediately remove the oysters from the shipping box and place them in a bowl. Cover them with a damp cloth and store them in the refrigerator between 34°F and 38°F. Do not store them in airtight containers or submerged in fresh water/ice, as they need to breathe.
Do you include shucking instructions or tools?
Every order includes a basic handling guide. Shucking knives and safety gloves are available for purchase separately in our 'Tools & Merch' section. We also provide video tutorials on our website to help you master the shucking process.
What is your return policy for perishable goods?
Due to the perishable nature of live shellfish, we cannot accept returns. However, if your order is damaged or delayed due to shipping issues, please contact our customer service within 24 hours of the scheduled delivery with photos so we can provide a replacement or credit.
Are your oysters sustainably farmed?
Yes. Hog Island Oyster Co. is a certified B Corp. We use sustainable aquaculture practices that filter the bay water and provide habitat for other marine life. We are committed to ocean health and environmental stewardship in everything we do.
